Fractional laser resurfacing evidence for Actinic keratosis
There is a relatively good level of clinical evidence, and a majority of papers support its effectiveness.
Grade combines the quantity and quality of the research, while direction is a separate signal showing how the papers assess effectiveness.

tier1 Ablative Fractional Laser Enhances Artificial or Natural Daylight Photodynamic Therapy of Actinic Field Cancerization: A Randomized and Investigator-initiated Half-side Comparative Study.
Abstract summary (English) Artificial daylight photodynamic therapy is a near-painless treatment for actinic keratoses, which can be performed indoors using a controlled light dose. Daylight photodynamic therapy is approved only for treatment of grade I-II actinic keratoses. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether fractional laser pre-treatment improves the outcomes of daylight photodynamic therapy for actinic keratoses of all grades.

View on PubMedtier1 Treatment of actinic keratosis: a systematic review.
Abstract summary (English) Treatment of actinic keratoses (AKs) can help lower the risk of eventual skin cancer and address field pre-cancerization. This review compares the different therapeutic options for actinic keratosis. Databases used include Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library from inception to December 2019.

View on PubMedtier1 Ablative Fractional Laser-assisted Low-irradiance Photodynamic Therapy for Treatment of Actinic Keratoses in Organ Transplant Recipients: A Prospective, Randomized, Intraindividual Controlled Trial.
Abstract summary (English) Pain and inferior efficacy are major limiting factors of conventional photodynamic therapy for the field treatment of actinic keratoses in immunosuppressed organ transplant recipients. This prospective randomized controlled study evaluates the efficacy and tolerability of ablative fractional laser system pretreatment combined with low-irradiance photodynamic therapy (18.5 mW/cm2) compared with conventional...

View on PubMedtier1 Ablative fractional laser-assisted treatments for keratinocyte carcinomas and its precursors-Clinical review and future perspectives.
Abstract summary (English) Keratinocyte carcinomas (KC) are the most common malignant human neoplasms. Although surgery and destructive approaches are first-line treatments, topical therapies are commonly used. Due to limited uptake of topical agents across the skin barrier, clearance rates are often sub-optimal.

View on PubMedtier1 Laser-assisted MAL-PDT associated with acoustic pressure wave ultrasound with short incubation time for field cancerization treatment: A left-right comparison.
Abstract summary (English) BACKGROUND: Laser-assisted MAL-PDT has been reported to increase the effectiveness of conventional PDT. Nonetheless, clinical effects of this association when reducing MAL incubation time is poorly discussed. Furthermore, the association of acoustic pressure wave ultrasound with laser-assisted MAL-PDT with short incubation time for field cancerization had not been reported before.

View on PubMedtier1 Local interventions for actinic keratosis in organ transplant recipients: a systematic review.
Abstract summary (English) BACKGROUND: Actinic keratosis (AK) in organ transplant recipients (OTRs) has a high risk of progressing to invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the skin. Thus, early and consequent treatment of AKs is warranted in OTRs. OBJECTIVES: To summarize the current evidence for nonsystemic treatments of AKs in OTRs.

View on PubMedtier1 Efficacy of iontophoresis-assisted ablative fractional laser photodynamic therapy with short incubation time for the treatment of actinic keratosis: 12-month follow-up results of a prospective, randomised, comparative trial.
Abstract summary (English) BACKGROUND: Iontophoresis is a transdermal drug-delivery technique that enhances the transport of ionic species across membranes and may have significant benefit for the treatment of actinic keratosis (AK) by ablative fractional laser-primed photodynamic therapy (AFL-PDT). The aims of this study were to compare the efficacy, recurrence rate, cosmetic outcome and safety of iontophoresis-assisted AFL-PDT with 2h of...

View on PubMedtier1 Fractional carbon dioxide laser-assisted photodynamic therapy for patients with actinic keratosis.
Abstract summary (English) BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: A relatively long incubation time is needed for photosensitizer absorption in conventional photodynamic therapy (PDT) for actinic keratosis (AK). The use of ablative CO2 fractional lasers (AFXLs) to increase drug delivery could shorten the incubation time. Here, we aimed to compare the efficacy between AFXL-assisted PDT with a short incubation time and conventional PDT for AK.

View on PubMedtier1 Efficacy of ablative fractional laser-assisted photodynamic therapy with short-incubation time for the treatment of facial and scalp actinic keratosis: 12-month follow-up results of a randomized, prospective, comparative trial.
Abstract summary (English) BACKGROUND: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) using methyl aminolevulinate (MAL) is an effective first-line treatment for actinic keratosis (AK). Erbium:yttrium-aluminium-garnet (Er:YAG) ablative fractional laser-assisted MAL-PDT (AFL-PDT) has shown significant benefit for the treatment of AK. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to compare the efficacy, recurrence rate, cosmetic outcome and safety between AFL-PDT...

View on PubMedtier1 Efficacy of ablative fractional laser-assisted photodynamic therapy for the treatment of actinic cheilitis: 12-month follow-up results of a prospective, randomized, comparative trial.
Abstract summary (English) BACKGROUND: Early identification and treatment of actinic cheilitis (AC) is recommended. Although photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an attractive therapeutic option for AC, PDT for AC does not result in the same satisfactory outcomes as in actinic keratosis (AK). OBJECTIVES: The aim of our study was to compare efficacy, recurrence rate, cosmetic outcome and safety between erbium:yttrium-aluminium-garnet ablative...
